June Update

Hello, wonderful website readers! I wanted to write a post on what I’ve been up to for June. I will let you know upfront here, not much, but this month was mostly a month of personal growth. As much as I would love to work in my studio and shut out the outside world, I realize doing this would not help me move forward career-wise. So allow me to write a bit here on what I’ve been up to this month!

A Trip to Eugene Oregon

For the very first part of the month, I took a trip back to my old stomping grounds of Eugene Oregon. The reason for this trip is that I was meeting up with childhood friends I made back in elementary school. We knew that we wanted to meet up in Oregon somewhere, it just turned out that we decided to meet up in the city I went to school.

While yes, this was mostly a personal trip where the goal was to relax, I did manage to fit in some valuable networking time within the context of this trip. Frequent visitors to my studio may remember my most recent project, Overthrow. The creator of this animation, Sam, by coincidence was also taking a trip to Oregon. Because of this, we were able to meetup in person for the first time!

Writing about this encounter, I realized that I really don’t take to many pictures of myself or other people. Fortunately one of our friends was able to take this great picture of both Sam and I on Polaroid!

It was a very rewarding experience finally being able to meet someone who not only paid me (thank you!) but also meet a talented artist that had enough faith in me to write an email asking to help bring his animation alive through sound. I’m hoping this will be the first of many encounters we have both personally and professionally!

To end this section on Oregon, Let me share with you a collection of photos I took of the area, because that’s what people do when they’re on vacation, is share photos, right?

Further Networking

After my Oregon trip, I have mostly spent my time networking with other people around the Richmond community. I have continued to grow connection within the indie game scene here, and that has been very rewarding. I was even able to join a group on Discord started by someone I met in RVA dedicated to game audio. It’s small at the moment, but that community is growing. I am very happy to be part of it, on the ground floor so to say, because I find it to be a bit difficult to join well-established groups. I have no idea where this will lead, but I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone here.

July Plans

As of right now, July is going to be a very stacked month for me. The Discord community I’m a part of now not only has its monthly challenges starting, but I will be participating in a game jam that will be hosted next month! I’m really looking forward to flexing my audio skills through this community dedicated to game audio.

That’s not all, I will also be doing another game jam as part of RVA game jams! So this month I will be doing back to back game jams. This will be a challenge for sure, but I welcome it. In the fast paced world of video games, people often deal with crunch and lots of work on their plate, so I’m looking forward to proving myself in this respect.

I hope everyone here has a great day and I look forward to seeing you back here when I have a lot of cool and fun stuff to write about next month!
